Candidly, the pro-life forces have not been totally
truthful about the Roe v. Wade decision. I don't know
if it was willful or just an oversight. However, the truth
is that the Justices declared that during the first
trimester, abortion should be available on demand;
that is when 90 percent of all abortions occur today.
In the second trimester, the right remains, but the
state can regulate the procedure. During the third
trimester, when the fetus is very viable

for some time, the state has an interest in preserving
life and can bar abortions except those meant to
preserve the mother's life or health. So technically, so–
called abortion-on-demand for the entire nine months
is stretching the point a bit.
