Death in the Name of Life
So many myths abound about abortion. And yet the
facts are quite clear. Nationally, 82 percent of women
obtaining abortions are unmarried. This strongly
suggests that abortion is used as a form of birth
control. In the United States today nearly one in three
pregnancies ends in abortion.
Do we realize what we are saying? Nearly one-third
of the babies conceived this year will not be born. How
will we ever explain this to our Creator? Far from
safeguarding the mother's life, the maternal death rate
from abortions is four times higher than it is for natural
childbirth (7.7 deaths per 10,000 abortions v. 1.84
deaths per 10,000 births). Some studies show that
more than one-third of mothers of aborted babies also
have mental problems later.
