Clubs Assist at Sunshine School Enthusiastic involvement proved to be the cord running consistently throughout the variety of Alpha Tau and GATA activities this year. A back to school Banana Split party started the fall semesteroff, and a bowling party finished it out. Many activities surrounded the traditional Pledge Week extravaganza. Following Rough Night new members of both clubs gathered together at Andy's for a well deserved meal. October 17 members got together and spent an afternoon helping at the SunshineSchool in Searcy. As a service to the school the workers deaned the indoor facilities and did various odd jobs outdoors. Later in October, GATA members and their dates en– joyed a chili supper and hayride as their traditional fall outing. The women traditionally hosted their Annual Homecoming Breakfast. Athletic events continued to play a dominant role in Alpha Tau activity. The spring semester ended with Alpha Tau claim– ing the BAll-Sports Trophy and the 8 Softball Championship. Their A team claimed the Large Club Softball Championship in the spring as well as the fall. The team swept the tournament in four games, eventually defeating Titans 14 to 4 in the Championship Game. Actively participating in the womens intramural program, GATA fielded teams in every area of competition. Their strong A team in Basketball, B Volleyball team and Bowling team highlighted the year. Helping to keep the spiritual life of the members in order, devotionals for both clubs were held frequently with Alpha Tau members speaking. The fall semester began with a watermelon party at the Knight House giving the members a chance for reun– ion after a summer apart. Friday night of the same week the pledges joined the members in a celebration at Wendy's. The two clubs had devotionals to– gether during the weeks they they did not gather to sing atOak Dale Nursing Home, including a sunrise devotional atCampWyldewood. GATA's hayride on October 29 was in keeping with the Halloween spirit. Preceding the ride they visited the Porter Roger's haunted house, Raising funds for the Ken Rose Scholarship was one of GATA' pro– jects this year. Rose was a student here until his death last summer. They also raised money to help Amy and Keith Groves pay for their two-year-old son Wesley's operation. The Christmasparty at the Wylde– wood Retreat Center closed the fall semester in a festive mood leaving a Christmas spirit and a desire to see old friends and to reunite with family members. A prayer breakfast with Shantih working in Special Olympics, Spring Sing, sponsoring the annual Winter Festival and active participatior blended to help GATA become a close, group. Spending time together usually re– sults in a closeness that develops be– tween two groups. In the case ofAl– pha Tau and GATA this bond was strengthened further through the friendships that were made and renewed.
