Dawn's Early Light

and our posterity, do ordain and establish this

Constitution for the United States ofAmerica.

What an amazing document.

The American

Constitution was the first of its kind to be prepared by

"the people"

through their delegates in convention.

It

was the first Constitution to recognize the right of a

people to self-government.

It

was also the first

Constitution to secure the rights of people from

government's power, by securing government so that

its several constituent parts were the means of keeping

each other in their proper place.

And what a refreshing notion. The American

approach was that government should serve the people.

They were not to be a people of, by, and for their

government. The only powers any government could

have were the powers that people willingly gave to it.

Having successfully won the Revolutionary War, the

Americans meant to live by free will. There would be

freedom of choice and freedom of action.
