The price controls were dropped by the Continental
Congress; supply and demand began to work toward
natural, mutually-agreed upon market prices.
Washington's army was supplied for rest of year and
following winter. Good economics saved the day!
Or, as Webster, the economist, put it,
"Trade, if let
alone, will ever make .its own way best, and like an
irresistible river, will ever run safest, do least mischief,
andmost good, suffered to run into its own channel.
