There were divided houses in Searcy this past year as three mothers and four daughters represented two different clubs~Ju GoJu UGJ )and Pi Theta Phi (PTP). Sarah Hite, aJGJ spon or, was the mother of sophomore Hallie Hite, who joined PTP. "lJGJ] was a huge part of my mom's Harding experience," Hallie said. ''I knew that I wanted tojoin a club, mainly because of all the ti mes she referenced it as a positiYe part of her life." Hallie grew up in Searcy and knew she wanted to join a club when she got LOH arding. but she decided to giw all of the clubs a chance instead of automatically choosingJGJ "E\·en though joining rJGJl would haYc been a special legacy for me, I felt being in another club was a better fit for my personality and a way for me to carYe my 0vvn path," Hallie said. Another JGJ sponsor, assoc iate director of the American Studies Institute Kim Kirkman, had t\\'O daughters \,·ho were members of PTP: seniors :- [ary- .'.\Iargaret and Anna-Grace Kirkman. Kim became a member ofJGJ in 1986 \,·hen she attended Harding as a student, and was a spon or from 1988 -1 989 . She rcce11tly became a sponsor again in fall 2016. Anna-Grace and 1Iary-.t\Iargaret both said they did not know what to expect about the club process and decided to go into it open-minded. "\\'c wanted to pick the club that fit our individual [personalitiesl/' .t\lary-~largarct said. Kim said her daughters loYcd the club process and each vvanted Lo make the decision on their own. Though JGJ was close to her hcan, she was happy with her daughters' decision to join PTP in fall 2013. ''I wasn't upset that they didn't pick rJGJ],'" Kim said. "It's funny because now some of their best friends are in rJGJ] and we joke that they are cutic pies at heart." Both Anna-Grace and ::\.Iary-.t\Iargaret said they were thrilled for their mother to become aJGJ sponsor again this year. "I was excited that she could now wear her big hows and pearls outside of the house," Anna-Grace said. "I was very happy for her. ·Once a cutie pie, always a cutie pie."'
