Christina Corum Sophomore Christina "Chrissy" Corum, 19, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, from injuries sustained in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler near Hardy, Ark. An early childhood development and special education major from Ava, Mo., Corum was returning to campus Monday night after spending an extended weekend with her family. As news ofthe accident reached campus during "Midnight Madness," several dozen worried students gathered to pray in the Kendall Hall lobby. Known for a contagious smile, a friendly spirit and artistic talent, Corum has been sorely missed by those who knew her. Rod MacDonald At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2000, many lives were changed by the passing of Rodney MacDonald, a junior who suffered complications from Marfan's syndrome. MacDonald was a joy and encouragement to be around. "He dedicated his life to God," Ryan Ness, MacDonald's roommate, said. "He led others by his example and was constantly willing to help anyone." MacDonald's 6'8" height made him a visible person on campus. However, that was just one part of MacDonald that students and faculty saw. Alejandro Orozco Freshman Alejandro Orozco was a good friend and brother in Christ. His parents Jesus and Delfina Benavides de Orozco were always proud of him. Orozco drowned last summer while on a campaign in EI Salvador. He was a servant of the Lord who was able to encourage people to work for God, and like the Biblical figure Aaron, he had the gift of communication. Orozco identified himselfwith Timothy because he was a young man who wanted to serve God but still needed more experience; however, Orozco showed maturity for his age. "I loved her so much," sophomore Sarah Ezell, Corum's roommate, said. ''I'm glad she's in heaven and1hope to seeheragain." She is survived by her parents, Joe and Vickie Corum. She also had two cousins at Harding, Tim and James Wylie. "She was my angel on earth," James said. "She always had a smile on her face. Even ifit wasjust her smiling at you, God blessed us with her presence. Now she is in His presence." More than 30 Harding students attended Corum's funeral, which was held Friday, Oct. 20, at the Ava church of Christ. - Ryan Cook He touched the lives of everyone he met, including his brothers in King's Men and his fellow students. "Rod's heart was as big as he was, and his likeable friendly attitude made everyone want to be around him," senior Troy Sidle said. The memories the student body has of MacDonald are ones that will be cherished forever. Many students attended a memorial service celebrating MacDonald's life that was held last April in the Heritage Auditorium. - Jennifer Burton The student body remembers Orozco by his spontaneous phrases like "De la vida y del Amor" (from life and love) and the nicknames he gave his friends. But above all we remember him for his love. Yesterday, we shared, we laughed and we enjoyed this earthly life together; although today he went first, he left us good times and memories. We are not sad because tomorrow we will see each other again. We can remember Orozco by his words: "God Bless you, trust in Him. Even though I will fail you, He will never fail you." - Michelle Valdivieso During the pastyear, three Harding students passed away. The student body dedicates this page to the memory ofthose students. Memorials 8 ~~~==------------~ 129 People
