Harding students compete with family members in same sports Juniors David and Andrew Scharff, sophomore Eva Axelsson and freshman Prunilla Axelsson bring new meaning to the phrase "sibling rivalry." The Scharff brothers are both members of the cross country team. Not only are they brothers, they are also twins. . TheScharffshave been running together in races since the fourth grade, so to them running together has become second nature. "We have run every single race together," Andrew said. "So it would be very weird not to run in a race without a family member in the race with me," On the cross country team, members do not compete individually, but as a team. Therefore, it is an advantage for the Scharffs to work together and push each other in the races. They both agreed that sometimes they can be competitive and one brother even said that the other one was probably a better runner, but for the most part, they have equal running abilities. They also said it was an advantage to have a teammate w ho was aware of your capabilities and is able to support and help push you to do your best. "If anyone knows how good or bad I ran in a particular race, it would be my brother," David said. "It is a plus to have him in the same race; I can judge where I am in the race, and we push each other well," Andrew said. Also twins, Eva and Prunilla Axelsson are members of the tennis team. Eva said since this is her sister's first semester, she was not sure whether or not their tennis coach would allow them to play doubles together or compete in a singles match during practice. Even though this is the Axelsson's first year together on the tennis team, the sisters have been playing tennis together since they were 10 years old. "We are really good friends and we like to play together," Eva said. - Meredith Garrity Michael Summers-Spencer, Ind. Carmen Sutton-Tulsa, Okla. Kelli Sutton-Kennewick, Wash.
