Most clubs included a devotional , entertainment and a time to m.ingle in their mixers. Some of the mixers had special themes , such as a pajama party, Hawa iian luau and Star Wars. These gave prospective members a chance to relax and enjoy each other's company. Many clubs also engaged in joint devotiona ls during the week of mixers. "During mixers, YOLI got an overall view of the club, and it was a way to meet other freshmen interested in the same club," Chi Omega Pi inductee Victoria Rachels said. In most mixers and devotionals, members explained that clubs are a medium to meet and get to know people better, but they should not monopolize one 's priorities. Instead , spiritual life and DID YOU KNOW? Pi Kappa Epsilon is the only club on campus to have two found ing dates -1 983 and 1989. It was formed in 1989 by the younge r brother of a 1983 member. The club was formed for the seco nd time using the same name and constitution . academics should still remain at the top of the list. "Freshmen should try not to be preoccupied wi th the induction process and , instead, look past it to all the great opportunities ahead," TNT pres ident Jason Fulmer said . After the three rounds of mixers, most students had narrowed their choices and began visiting club members. Finally, the clubs selected who they wanted as inductees. "Th e final vote is always a tough one. We had mo re people than we could accept, " Del ta Chi De lta vice president Lathan \Vatts sa id. For the inductees, getting accepted into a club was just the beginning of a long and tiring week. Inductees typica lly were assigned an older member who helped them compl ete their "pledge book" by the end of the week - a week of high tension and little sleep. (continued on page 96 .. .)
