INDUCTION Final week ofinduction takes its toll on new members (...continued from page 95) Inductees were required to obtain the signatures of all the club members. In additi?n, some clubs encouraged them to obtain signatures frommembers ofother clubs as well . It was common to see inductees exchanging pens and pledge books everywhere on campus. "I had fun during induction week because I met a lot of people I wouldn 't have otherwise met. Now I'm ready to become a true member and to get involved ," Shan t ih ind uc tee Jami e Lockwood said. Induction week was also a time to teach the inductees the traditions of the club. Melanie Castieberg, president of Sigma Phi Mu , said, "We taught our inductees the symbo ls o fo llI' club. The sail boat symbolizes that we are vessels , and the w ind is the Holy Spiri t gu iding us. " Most clubs required thei r inductees to memorize facts about the club. Freshmen spent much of the ir time learning the club's pledge, hisrory, scripture and other information. Some of the week's othe r acti vities fo r vario us clubs incl uded shav ing c ream and mud fights , a huge game of "Duc k , Duck , Goose" and Silly Olymp ics. These acti vities eased the tension of induction week and allowed members and inductees to join together in the fu n. Shouts of laughte r cou ld be heard across the entire campus. The week ended with inductions on Friday. Clubs headed in all directions to hold their ceremonies. I t was a night of celebration and re lief. After weeks of hard work, new members took a deep brea th and began the ir journey togethe r with the o ld membe rs.
