Colle eof Bible & Reli • New Building Plans Take Center Stage Big plans have been undeiway in the School of Bible and R ligion for the construction of a new Bible and World Missions Center. Construction began this spring, with completion scheduled for the fall of 1994. The center's official name will be theJim Bill Mcinteer Bible andWorld Missions Center, recognizing the contributions made to Harding by its Board of Trustee secretary. The new facilities are making possible the addition of two new master's degree programs. One of these will be a master's degree in Bible. The other, which will directly tie in to the new Bible center, will be a master's degree in marriage and family therapy. Another key emphasis in the Bible department has been the revision and strengthening of curriculum for women. According to Dr. Carl Mitchell , Carl Mitchell, Ph. D. D. Professor of Reli g ion J th department has been ttying to, " ... amplify the challenge to women to fulfill their place in biblical roles .... " With a general Bible major available for women, Mitchell expressed his concern that a lot of people weren 't aware this major existed. ·'This Bibi major for women will help in certain areas such ~ts lesson preparation and teachings ," he said. With a 110-percent increase in the number of Bible majors over the past four years, the department had an estimated 300 students enrolled in the program. One of the features of the new building will be the accommodation of the counseling center on the third floor.
