Students from all majors, clubs and organizations were involved in the intramural program. Staying busy, Bill Anderson takes down the substitutes whi le trying to keep score and the books. For the system to work properly, the assistants were a vital part. The strange sounds often heard during nighttime strolls around Harding came from, none other than, the athletic fields and gymnasiums here on campus. There , one could witness fierce and grueling - yet, friendly-games of intramural sports. It has been said· that many men finally decided to come to Harding because the intramural program was far uperior to those of the other sister colleges. Therefore , it was safe to say that intramurals was a vital part of student life. Whether it was a break from studies or just to meet new people, intramurals offered many advantages. Intramural sports were an excellent way to combine all the routines of a daily work-out and have fun doing it at the same time. Intramural Director Mike Pruitt oversaw all 10 sports offered in the men's program. He was responsible for gathering assistant workers and making 120 Athletics ~ u :r: 0 > < 0 >- co ~ 0 :r: 0.. sure that the games ran smoothly. His assistants had the responsibility of setting up the equipment, starting the games on time and keeping score . Pruitt, who also taught in the physical education department , liked the challenges of his job and was excited to see so many men (70 percent) participating. Senior Kirk Hollis was actively involved in intramurals all four of his years at Harding. "By participating in intramural team sports, I was able to form bonds with people that were not in my club or major field of study." This year he was competing for an intramural jacket, given annually to those who have totalled the highest points in overall competition. "Intramurals have meant a lot to me ," he said.
