One of the more frequent stops in the daily life of the female student body at Harding - other than the mailroom, cafeteria , and an occasional cameoappearance in the library - was the intramural board. With approximately 70 percent of women participating in intramural sports, there was always a crowd to be seen. Intramurals allowed che women many advantages. Whether it was to meet new people, stay in shape, be an outlet for stress , or to root for their favorite team ' intramurals was a major ingredient in student life activities. With 10 different types of sports offered, there was always something for everyone. Harding has always been known for its intramural program, and the women seemed to take full advantage of it. Barbara Barnes has been actively involved in women's intramurals for 29 years, the last 28 years as its director. She said that it has been a "very enjoyable" experience for her. "Intramurals has been an integral part of the student life and ofHarding since it (Harding) became a four-year institution in 1924," she said. In addition to her duties as director , Mrs. Barnes also teaches in the physical education department. She would be the first to admit that the success of the intramural program depends on her assistants. Helping out were Michelle Marshall Roxi Ashmore ' ' Janet Clark, Leanne Putman, Katrina Deys and Jennifer McMullen. Points were awarded for overall individual achievement. Winning the award for most points in 1992 was Joy Wilson. She was awarded a plaque and an intramural letter jacket. -- Harry DeBenedictis , Jr. Athletics 119 :t 0 c3 w -< 0 > :5 0
