DIETETICS: Nutrition Promoted On World Food Day The Dietetics program was based upon the philosophy that optimal nutrition is essential for the health and well-being of every person. The mission of the club was to prepare members with skills and knowledge conducive to helping individuals and society meet their nutritional needs. The club nearly doubled in size this year with the additions of several incoming freshmen and transfers. The club promoted nutrition and service to the community by sponsoring the collection of food for World Food Day. Canned foods were collected from students, faculty and staff to replenish emptying shelves at His House. Hundreds of cans were donated for this cause. The club's aim was to help people realize that hunger is a growing problem, not only in other countries, but also in the United States and right here in White County. The highlight of the year was the club 's attendance at the annual American Dietetic Association National Convention, held in Dallas, Texas. The trip allowed for DIETETICS. 1st row (I to r ): Cheryl Helms. 2nd row: Donna Chapman, Christine Langston, Marcheta Burke, Dodi Samuel, Dana Rottman , Kristi Sibert and Christy Sumpter. 3rd row: Lisa Ritchie, Sherry English , Kristin Weber, Ladena Mcspadden, Diadra McGregor, Jennifer Reinert and Michale J. Club member Shannon Weldon was pleased with her experience at the convention. " I thought that overall it was a good experience because it allowed us to see the new products that will be out on the market, products that we will be using someday." This year was an exciting one for the Dietetics Club, and it provided the members with opportunities for growth and knowledge about their chosen careers in dietetics and the role nutritionists play in society to- ~ day.+ ~ - by Kristi M.
