A part-time student worker assigned to the cavernous Benson Auditorium stuck his head around the door marked "storage" and waited for his next assignment. East Area Campus Supervisor, Marcus Barett headed a crew of sixteen such student workers and three other supervisors. The forty-twoyear-old Newport native made sure that the Benson Auditorium, the Music building, the Mabee building, and the Science building got the "White Glove Treatment." He also operated the Harding Carpet Cleaning Service. Barnett started working at Harding in 1985 and immediately made an impression. Clyde Owen, the Director of Building Services said "The thing that I really like about him is he's meticulous, and he's very organized. Marcus is one of my more stable, dependable employees" he said. Because of Owen's many responsibilities, he was unable to keep a personal eye on individual workers. Barnett kept his group going with little supervision. "He's one that I can count on." The Benson Auditorium was Barnett's main responsibility. With over three thousand fixed seats, the Benson is the largest seated single purpose auditorium in Arkansas. "You'd be surprised how small it is when you start working in it," mused Barnett. Walton Scholar Maria Alfaro, who has worked in the Benson for the last four years, was glad to be working under Barnett. "He's a person who works hard," she said. Maria paused for a moment from straightening song books, then continued, "He took the time to help me get a spare part for my car that was in Nicaragua. He's always willing to help you." During a lull in the cleaning, Barnett kicked back in a chair and reflected on some of the more unusual happenings in the Benson during his tenure. The bearded Barnett's blue eyes danced behind his glasses as he recalled the night in the fall of 1985 when security caught someone trying to hide all the song books in the building. "Yeah." chuckled Barnett as he scratched his beard, "but the most unusual incident that happened was when one of the faculty held class on the roof. And I won't say who that was!"+ - Rick Trujillo Christy Perkins - Secretary/ Receptionist Joe Pike - Carpenter Lorene Poindexter - Clerk Lyle Poindexter - Shop Foreman Charles Pool - Equipment Operator Nancy Pool - Custodial Debbie Poss - Postal Clerk Rabon Edwin Price - Painter Alfred Prince - Director of Mechanical Services Charlene Prock - Personnel Assistant Arnold Pylkas - AS/ Conference Coordinator Donna Reeves - Secretary to Executive Vice President Guilford Rice - Transportation Officer Pat Rice - RN Student Health Services J.
