Science from the Christian viewpoint: theme for new course Invited in early 1978 to Bulawayo, Rhodesia, Biology .Department Chairman Dr. Jack Wood Sears gave several lectures on science and the Bible in a lectureship sponsored by the church there. He also spoke on the Rhodesian National Television and Radio Station. Similar series of lectures were presented by Dr. Sears for the Hermitage Road church and the local television station in Richmond, Virginia. A geneticist, Dr. Sears cooperated in the spring of 1978 with Dr. Don England, a chemist; Dr. James Mackey, a physicist; and Dr. Harmon Brown , a mathematician, in presenting for the lirst time a course on the "Christian View of Science and Scripture." Required of all seniors working toward the B.S. degree in mathematics or one of the natural sciences, the course was designed to deal with topics of importance to the areas of faith in God, reliability of the Bible and the proper place of science in the life of the Christian. Continuing his research in herpetology, Dr. Michael V. Plummer worked as co-author of a book designed to be a comprehensive treatise on Arkansas herps since no such book has been written. In June, at Arizona State University , he attended joint meetings of the American SOCiety of Ichthyologists and Herpe - tologists, the Herpetologists' League and the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles. For 1978-79, Dr. Plummer received research grants totaling $650 from Sigma Xi, the national scientific research society, and the Milwaukee Public Museum. In October, for the second successive year, Dr. George Woodruff went to Washington , D.C. at the invitation of the National . Science Foundation to serve on the screening panel that selected the reCipients of NSF grants for projects in secondary school science programs. Obtaining a $13 ,200 matching funds grant from the National Science Foundation, Dr. Bryce Roberson installed and calibrated instruments for the Cell Physiology-Bi·ochemistry Laboratory. He also served as the academic advisor of students taking the two-year program for admission to the Nursing Division. Spending many hours, Ronald Doran worked on the greenhouse and developed courses on plant taxonomy and ecology.
