DEFENSE is the key for Harding, as several defenders converge on an opposing runner. Harding 20 State College 14 The aerial artistry of Terry Welch and Ronnie Peacock brought Harding its first victory over State College of Arkansas in eleven seasons of competition, 20- 14. Making the most of a pair of Bison fumbles, the Bears took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Coach Prock's Bulls showed great offensive poise and hard-hitting defense to come from behind and win. In eight plays the Bulls moved 87 yards in the second quarter to score with a 25 yard pass from Welch to Peacock. Again in the third quarter, the Welch-Peacock duo scored on a nine-yard play. The final Bison score came on a fumble recovery return by Emerson Brubaker that covered 29 yards. Peacock, the ATC's pass receiving leader set a season record of 62 by grabbing seven passes for 139 yards. Welch hit 13 of 20 passes for 187 yards for his best night of the year.
