SPEECH AND DRAMA GROUPS French drama wins Arkansas division of stage competition "The Nose" was king of drama as Harding's 1969-70 drama department produced the magnificent comic-tragedy of "Cyrano de Bergerac." Written by the French playwright Edmond Rostand, "Cyrano de Bergerac" is the love story of a brave soldier with a beautiful soul but an ugly nose. Teresa Rushton was the beautiful maiden wooed visibly by the handsome Mike Wise and wooed poetically by the dashing, but shy, Chuq Parker. Ably directed by Larry Menefee, Cyrano de Bergerac was honored by winning the Arkansas division of the American College Theatre Festival, a brilliant accomplishment since the total number of performers and technical assistants was limited to twenty-five. Chuq Parker was also named one of the ten outstanding performers of Region V College Theatre Festival in Fort Worth, Texas.
