1954-1955 Yearbook

The last wind makes a basket weave which is left on the pole. Highlights Spring selection of the May Queen by the student body from a group of thirteen girls - one from each girl 's social club. And the graceful May Pole winders in their pastel formals present quite a different spectacle from that during the preceeding month of early morning practice. Then the girls straggled out with eyes half open and hair rolled up, dressed in blue jeans, coveralls, and coats, A large part of their activity might best be described thus, "The girls stumbled around the May Pole, tangling the limp streamers as they went, while the director stood at a safe distance alternately pulling her hair and shouting directions." Watching the May Pole winders are Nancy McDaniels, 1954 May Queen, and her court. Another May Fete draws to a close as the queen leaves the lawn.
