(Photo by Doug Fonville) · · · · ..The lffi Petit Jean yearbook dedication ceremonies held Monday on the Harding College campus honored Jimmy Allen, associate professor of Bibler, and Julie Weidner, a senior from Cooksville, Illinois. The volume was dedicated to Allen, who was voted by the senior class to receive the recognition. Editor KayWilliams-made dedicatory remarks and presented Allen with the first yearbook. Allen, a 1952 graduate of Harding, was the school's second student body president. He received his master's degree from the Harding Graduate School f Religion and the honorary doctorate from Oklahoma Christian College: In addition to his teaching in the Bible department, . Allen speaks at evangelistic meetings across the country. He has also lectured in Australia, Greece, Lebanon, North Ireland and Japan. The 49-year-old Allen has authoried six books in– cluding studies of Romans and I Corinthians. He is married to the former Marilyn McCluggage, and they have three children- Cindy, Jimmy and Mike. Miss Weidner, a Bible major, was the Petit Jean queen nominee of Knights social club. She was crowned by Dr. Joseph Pryor, academic dean of the college and faculty sponsor for the book. She is also studying psychology and plans.a career as a women's . counselor on a college campus. In addition to mem– bership in the Beta Tau Gamma women's club, she is active in Conquerors evangelistic group and Joy service organization. Serving as attendants in tbe queen's coun were Nancy Huett, a senior home economis major from Elizabeth, Arkansas~ and Lynn Osburn, a junior from Columbia, Missouri. Ross Cochran, a senior from Hobbs, New Mexico, was presented the Regina Spirit Award. A Biblemajor and Greek minor, ·Cochran was president of the ' Student Association a member of the tennis team and Chi Sigma Alpha men's club. Cochran will travel to · Limerick, Ireland, after May graduation to spend two years in mission work. The Harding Academy portion of the book was dedicated to Ray Wright, English instructor at the school. - The cover of the 55th Petit Jean is a brown leather– like grain with a sky-blue name plate. The theme "Insights and Afterthoughts" is carried out in the 432 pages. Miss Williams is a senior special education major . from Birmingham, Alabama. She and business manager Steve Heimburger of Chantilly, Virginia, headed a staff of 30 students. Assi$tant editor Charles Murphy of Searcy and assistant business manager Hal West of Nashville, Tennessee, will fill the top positions next year. Pryor completed his 36th year as sponsor for the yearbook staff. ~~ , \~1 ' The Harding University yearbook, the 1979 Petit Jean, has received the All-American rating from the spring critical service of the Associated Collegiate Press. , It was the 20th consecutive y~ar. that Uie Harding , book has earned the top rating.
