In this first example, the Apostle Paul

concludes his letter to the Church at Phillipi

with a list of Christian duties. Here is

Philippians 4:8 --

"Brethren, whatever is true,

whatever is honest, whatever is just, whatever

is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good

report, if there is any virtue, if there is anything

worthy of praise, think about these things.

"

The second example of a

code of conduct

is, of course,

"The Beatitudes"

from Matthew

5:3-11. There are nine beatitudes; each

pronounces a blessing upon those who have

certain characteristics:

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for

theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

..

Blessed are those who mourn, for they

shall be comforted. Blessed are the

meek, for they shall inherit the earth...

Blessed are those who hunger and

thirst for righteousness, for they shall be

filled.

Blessed are the merciful, for they

shall obtain mercy...Blessed are the

pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they

shall be called sons of God.

..

Blessed

are those who are persecuted for

righteousness' sake, for theirs is the

kingdom of heaven.
