Rine graduated from Harding Academy a year early, joining a number of Harding students who got a jump start on their college educations. "I felt like I was ready for something new," Rine said. GRADUATING EARLY FROM High school graduation is often one of the most anticipated events in a young person's life. Yet some students opt to graduate early and jump ahead to another wellanticipated time in their lives-college. One such student is freshman Tabitha Rine, 17. Rine attended 1Q1 h and 111 h grades at Harding Academy, then decided to attend the university. "I only needed two more classes, so I took them in the summer," Rine said. Rine not only expected classes to be more challenging but also expected to meet friendlier people. "I felt like I was ready for something new," Rine said. "There's always surprises that come at you. I feel that I was a little prepared." One of the things she looked forward to was the chance to help others spiritually. "I've really enjoyed the missions and outreach groups," Rine said. Rine also found that coming to college caused her to grow up faster. "I am expected to be more mature now that I am at college," Rine said. Junior David Mitchell, 19, is another student who graduated high school early. He completed one semester of his senior year at Harding Academy while also attending part-time at Harding University. At the start of the spring 2000 semester, Mitchell stopped attending high school and started attending college full-time. He received his General Education Diploma in May 2000. Mitchell already had a fair idea of what college life was like from attending part-time, so he hasn't felt pressure to mature any faster. "I was looking for new opportunities that were not available to me at high school," Mitchell said. He has noticed one difference in parttime and full-time attendance. "I have more time now that I'm not going to high school and college at the same time," Mitchell said. -Kira Leigh Felicia Craig-Rogers, Ark. Erin Cramblett-Sherwood, Ark.
