Following the consolidation of Harper College and Arkansas Christian College, J.N. and Woodson Armstrong penned this letter to the students of the newly formed Harding College. The Armstrongs are pictured above at the burning of the Harding mortgage on Thanksgiving Day 1939, 15 years later. Armstrong’s time as president had been fraught with financial difficulties and major debt against the institution - this burning ceremony was a celebration of the efforts of George S.
