DDr.Clifton L. Ganus Jr. came to Harding as a student in 1939, and many said he never left. Ganus served 73 years as an integral part of the faculty as both a Bible and history professor, chair of the history department, dean of the School of American Studies, vice president, president, chancellor and chancellor emeritus. Ganus spent a significant part of his life traveling the world gathering political and cultural knowledge and was instrumental in the establishment of Harding's International Programs. Ganus led Harding College to its transition into Harding University. He also was instrumental in the resumption of Harding's athletic program and was known for his support of all University teams. Beyond his titles and achievements, Ganus was known for his faith, generosity and kind spirit. Ganus used his talents to further the Harding mission, contribute to various charities and works, and help others in need. Ganus was more than just a Harding president. He was a man who spent his life devoted to God. Through that, Ganus made an impact on the University, the community and the people around him. "Where else would I go? If I am not at Harding, I will be in Heaven." As quoted in the 2003-04 Petit Jean ■ closing 307
