198 Ranan Hester, assistant dean of students, pursued a master's degree while serving as a dean. R RananHester, assistant dean of students, was passionate about building relationships with those around her, especially the students she worked with at Harding. Hester took her passion a step further and pursued a master's degree in professional counseling and clinical mental health in 2015 and completed the degree in spring 2019. "I started to see the need that some of our students come here already receiving clinical mental health help and therapy and things of that sort, and it was a way for me to better understand where they were coming from and the stresses of transitioning into college life," Hester said. Her responsibilities required interactions with students and faculty, and her daily tasks ranged from housing and chapel to disciplinary matters. She said she aimed to be available to listen and help students with anything they needed. "Ifthey need somebody, we want to be available so that they can talk to us."
