2019-2020 Yearbook

let's get The fashion merchandising department organized a fashion show. In fall 2019, students in the fashion merchandising department hosted a fashion show. This was the department's first show since fall 2016. Senior apparel merchandising major Halle Maddox said she was unable to participate in the show her freshman year, so she was even more excited to help organize the 2019 show. "This is something apparel majors are putting together," Maddox said. "It is not for a grade; it is not for a class; it is just something we want to do. They did one my freshman year, but we have not been able to do one since, so we wanted to bring it back and do another one." The department decided to make the show a fundraiser. The cost to attend the event was $5 and proceeds went to Center on the Square, a performing arts theater in Searcy. Maddox said the head of the department often worked with the theater, so it was an easy decision. The theme of the fashion show was "The Art of Texture." Junior apparel merchandising major Hannah Rushing, director of the show, said she chose the theme because of how trendy textures were in 2019. "I knew it was an upcoming trend," Rushing said. "Especially for the fall, there were a lot of sequins and furry sweaters and teddy bear coats." Sophomore apparel merchandising Danaisha Wester said each of the pieces featured in the show came from local boutiques around Searcy and Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as seniors within the department. Several students from the department helped run and coordinate the fashion show. Junior Abby Dahlem worked on the hair and makeup committee. "The team I am on [applied] makeup and [styled] hair for each of the 21 models," Dahlem said. "We also assisted the model management team in ensuring each model is dressed properly and lined up in time to take the runway." Dahlem said the people involved assisted each committee as needed. Maddox said the process leading up to the show was good preparation for what was to come in their careers after Harding. "Just working with a team of girls within our major and having to coordinate and delegate tasks in order to work toward one thing has been good," Maddox said. "It is just a great experience to take with us after we graduate." story by Emma Vaughn Freshman Hallie Diles models a textured jacket in the Founders Room ofthe American Heritage Building Nov. 12, 2019.
