In 1964, Alfred Prince accepted a position with Harding's Physical Resources Department. After 54 years, Prince still worked for physical resources, and every morning, he made a 28-mile commute to Harding. Prince spoke about one of the biggest influences early in his career. "I went into the electrical field and had a great guy to work for," Prince said. "He took care of me and trained me and showed me how I was supposed to do things co work for Harding. Instead of just doing it for yourself, he really stressed that if you weren't working for Harding, you didn't need to be here." Alfred Prince's son, Travis Prince, began working with his father at 16 years old. After taking time off to attend Harding, he returned to work for physical resources. Travis Prince viewed his father as a mentor at work and in life. "It's great, I think," Travis Prince said. "We get along well. He has a great work ethic, and he's passed that on to a lot of people, you know. He stays [until] the job's finished. Sometimes, it might be [until] midnight. He shows people what hard work looks like, and he's respectful to others.' Office and Rental Manager JoAnne Ford knew Alfred Prince for about 10 years. "Because he has been here so long, he knows where everything is, different systems, you know, piping, stuff like that where people wouldn't have any idea where to look for it," Ford said. "He knows where it is. He probably put it in." Alfred Prince trained workers in multiple areas because of the experience he gained over many years on the job. 'I have a master of electrical license, I have a plumber's license, but my main job, now, is heat ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration," Alfred Prince said. Ford said Alfred Prince was very committed and responsible when it came to his work and expressed that he always created everyone with kindness and professionalism. "He is very helpful with the younger technicians that have come on board," Ford said. "He's always willing co come early or stay late to get things done chat are important. I know he's always cordial, pleasant and professional to everyone that he meets, you know, on campus." Alfred Prince said that after his retirement he wanted to continue working on his family farm, the same farm he grew up on, and he expressed his desire to spend time with his grandson and take him fishing. story by Zach Bissell AlfredPrince, who works in the Physical Resources Department, examines a pipe in the Ganus Activities Complex boiler room on Nov. 1, 2018.
