Through acts of service, community involvement and a Christ-driven spirit, Stephanie Howell was elected as Harding's newest Board of Trustees member in March 2018. Howell's father, Paul Carter, for whom the Paul R. Carter College of Business was named, was a board member for 25 years and according to Howell, he was known for his gift of seeing possibilities within people. "I would never presume to be able co continue his legacy, but I want to honor his legacy and that of my mother [June Carter] by being aware of how I might encourage and support others each day," Howell said. Howell served as an administrator for the Tri-S Foundation, a familyowned organization that strove to provide funding to Christian-based organizations, with the intention of benefiting current and furure generations. Howell's daughters, professional counseling graduate student Katherine Howell and sophomore mathematics with licensure major Emma Howell, were part of the foundation and also helped organize grants. "[The Tri-S Foundation and the Board ofTrustees] are mission-based with the idea to reach more people and create more followers of Christ," Emma Howell said. "[My mom] works in unconventional miniscry." The Howells loved the bond Harding brought their family. Stephanie Howell believed having her daughters at Harding gave her a new way to bring her family closer together through the relationships they built on campus. "I see how they are blessed every day by their friends, professors and others on campus," Stephanie Howell said. "I love the tie that binds their hearts in Christian love. I see that as part of the Harding experience, and I am forever grateful for what this means to my family and to countless others around the world." Katherine Howell and Emma Howell both acknowledged that family history influenced their decision co go to Harding. "My mom is living in her father's legacy being on the board just as I am living in my parents' legacy coming to Harding," Emma Howell said. The sisters admired the way their mother worked as owner of an all-women's boutique-gym and worked with other organizations. Through her leadership and efforts to create more followers of Christ, Emma Howell and Katherine Howell recognized the servant heart their mother possessed on and off campus. "I am just really proud of her," Katherine Howell said. "She is an amazing, Christ-like woman, and she always strives to do what is right. I know that she will serve to the best of her ability in this new role." story by Lexi Hoagland Board of Trustees Row I: Donald L. Shores, Cave Srings, Ark.; Harold R. Redd, Memphis, Tenn.; John D.
