TRANSFERRING TO THE STAGE FIRST-YEAR TRANSFER BECOMES SPRING SING WORDS TaDm Broum I I PHOTOS Abigail Cooper Sophomore Brooks Bennett was no stranger to the stage. In fall 2017, Bennett was a transfer student from Belmont University in ashville, Tennessee. When he transferred to Harding, his friends encouraged him to get involved and audition for something musically based. After completing the audition process, Bennett was selected as a 2018 Spring Sing host. Bennett grew up with junior and felJow Spring Sing hostess, Caroline Ritchie, who encouraged him to try out. "I [missed] performing, and auditions are a smalJ performance, [so] I thought [I should] just go for it," Bennett said. \"(/hen Ritchie found out that Bennett had earned the role, she was ecstatic for her long-time friend. "I was so proud when I saw that he got cast because I was so excited for him to come to Harding this year," Ritchie said. " [I] am so excited for what he is going to do [this year] in Spring Sing and the re t of his [time] here." Sophomore Ava Galyean, another 2018 Spring ing hostess, recogojzed Bennett's talent when she first heard him at the audition. "I was absolutely blown [away]," Galyean said. "He is so talented, and I'm glad he is getting the recognition he deserves." When talking to Bennett about singing and performing, his love for the stage showed on his face and through his words. "I always enjoy the moment right before going on stage," Bennett said. "[\Xtben you] immerse yourself in that world and character, you get to give people something at that point. I get to use a gift that [makes] people laugh, entertain them or move people. [I] enjoy making people feel something and telling a story, whether on stage or behind the scenes."
