The Galaxy reception was on \\'cdnesday, Sept. I+ in the Harding Academy Gym. Senior Brooklyn Billncr, aJGJ recruitment director, said she lo\'cd being able to fulfill that role forJ GJ and thought the 1-cc<·ption ,,·as a success. "I think what made it the most fun was the fact thaL c,-cryone got to dress up," Bi li ner said. '"You could sec C\Tryonc's creati\'ity, and it pro\'ided an easy ice breaker for conw rsations.·· Attcndet?s came dres»cd in a tronomical or neon clothing, or costumes such as '·Zenon·· or "Star \\'ars·· characters.Junior Belle Blickenstaff, the other recruitment director forJGJ. said they chose the Galaxy theme because they \I anted to prm·idc a positi\'c atmosphere with bright colors. ··Getting to $CC e\'eryone's creativity was fun,'' Blickenstaff said. "It \\'as special because there \\'as a lot of,·ariety in the costumes.'' BilIner added thatJGJ \\'anted the potential members to relax and enjoy the night, but also \\'anted the theme to relay the message that as a Christian club,JGJ was not "of this worlcl."JGJ held a de,·otional during the reception which reflected the message that Christians were to be set apart from the rest of the world. '·Since clubs arc such an important pan of new student ' experiences during their first semester on campus, ,,-c wanted to remind them that there is more to life than clubs," Billner said. '·It gave me a ne\\' and fun opportunity to meet the girls and helped me to remember them." "\ \'c had all seen our friends and had meetings, but the [rcccptio11i \\'as a great way to get e,·cryonc together to hm-c some fun," Hoagland said. "I hope the I reception] portrayed to the potcmial members that we really are a \\'hole lot of fun and that we care about them." According to Billncr, it was one of her fa\'Orite reception. in all of her four years uf college. Blickenstaffsaid seeing the potential members ha\'ing a good time ,,·as extremely rewarding as a rccruitmcm di rector. "I hope the [reception] helped our members relax and feel relatablc to the new ~tudents looking at LJGJ]," Blickenstaff said.
