WOMEN EMPOWERING Senior Chandler Pruitt and ::\Iallory Bryant created the Pre-professional Health Sciences Club for \Vomen in fall 2016 as a way to make connections in the pre-profe sional world. Pruitt said the point of the club was based on two different categories: the academic idc and the support group side. "Thi club is mainly about the support we have for one another," Pruitt said. "Tfyou don't have the upport ofyou r friends and fam ily, you won't make it. It's too difficult." One of the club sponsors, Dr. Dana Province, a dentist in Searcy, was involved in the club by providing support, ad\·ice and connections for the women in the club who \,·ere trying to prepare themselves for the road ahead. "There are a lot ofwomen in thi community [who] went to Harding that are professional women working in the medical field," Pro\'ince said. '·\\'e all have a working relationship." "Right now, it's pretty informal as far as our meetings go," Bryant aid. "We don't want it to feel like it is a requirement to be there. \\'e're in the recruitment tage right now. \Ve are really ju t trying to get as many people invoh·ed as we can [to get] the word out about what we are doing." Pruitt said the main hope for the club was to create a support group for like-minded women who \\·ere going through the same clas es with similar dreams. "I was in pired to begin this new club on Harding's campus, because I am passionate about becoming a doctor, while encouraging others around me to pursue their dreams of becoming doctors, erving others and their families to the fullest through their future careers," Pruitt said. "\Vomen seeking doctorate-level degrees share a common bond and a unique de ire to develop long-lasting friendships with like-minded women based on encouragement and upport."
