Juniors Delaney Bowle and Kaleigh Ramey, along with senior CharlcsAnn Freeman, were placed on the \\'omen's Golf Coaches Association All- \merican Scholars List onjuly 5. According to R amey, ifa student attended a specific number of tournaments and maintained a 3.5 GPA, they could be nominated. Due to how often the golf team was gone and the number of school days they were required to miss because of wurnaments, Bowles said time management was vital to success. '·It ,,·as nice to be recognized for that, because it is a lot of work to balance athletics and school," Bowles said. "I feel like people don't realize how much work it is to have to balance mis ing a whole month of .chool throughout the year." Ramey agreed "·ith Bowles about needing to prioritize e,·ery aspect of their lives. "You have to IC'arn how to manal);e timr really well," Ramey said. "I would always try to study on t.hc bus rc1uring] golf trips and study while I wa · at golf tournaments. Also, ju t managing free time [i impon antJ. Some free time is good, but it is important to realize that you cannotjust do fun stuff all the time. You ha,·c to study a lot.·, The acknowledgment of achievement brought a responsibility to lead the younger teammates, Bowles said. ·'On the road, you have to cithrr sleep or study, and at my first tournament I didn't do that," Bowles said. ·Tm encouraging lwomenJ this year to take advantage of"their time spent on the road."' Ramey agreed with Bowles on the issue of time management. " G olf is really importa nt, but school is importa nt, too," R a mey aid. '·It takes sacrifices on both end. .'' According to Ramey, the professors at Harding were helpful and willing to work with her. "All [of] my teachers have been [really] good about it," Ramey said. "I've never had any issues with them when I get behind. They definitely make an effort to help me understand what is going on and help me get caught up." Sometimes, managing the commit{nents of athletics and academics was hard, Ramey said. \\/hen R amey was in the middle of golf season, had schoolwork to do and had not been sleeping, . he remi ndcd herself that no matter what she was going th rough, she could alway come through on the other side. Freeman agreed with Ramey and Bowles. She attributed her achievement. in academi sand spans to her teachers. "Balancing athletics and academic is incredibly challenging, and many athletes like myself Lake on other extracurricular activities as well," Freeman said. "Personally, I can say I could not have had the success that I have experienced without the help and patience of many teachers and peers."
