SILLY OLYMPICS Ju Go Ju, Ko Jo Kai, Pi Theta Phi and Zeta Rho come together for a night of friendly competition 0 ne of the most highly anticipated traditions of Club Week continued this year with huge success-the Silly Olympics. The Silly Olympics was a competition between four women's social clubs: Ju Go Ju, Ko Jo Kai, Pi Theta Phi and Zeta Rho. The inductees for these clubs competed against each other in the Ganus Athletic Center on Nov. 1 in several activities such as relay races, screaming competitions and other silly events such as determining who had the longest leg hair. The beaux of these four clubs judged each event. The clubs prepared their new members for the competition in different ways. Ko Jo Kai inductees made shirts for the games with their induction year on the back. Ju Go Ju prepped their inductees by practicing their "Yeah Rah" chant before the games and pumping each other up. "My favorite part is the dressing up," senior speech pathology major and Ko Jo Kai member Sophie Thompson said. "Since I'm an old member, I have a lot of club pride, and it's not everyday that I can dress up like a ladybug." After countless games and outrageous events, Pi Theta Phi triumphed as the overall winner. "It was really awesome winning for the fifth year in a row," Pi Theta Phi member sophomore Natalie Smith said. "The older members made it seem like they would be upset if we didn't win, but we went out there, had a blast, and grew closer to each other OEGE est. 1947: Row 1: A. Scott, M. Jamerison, C. Although the other clubs were disappointed they lost, everyone who participated still had a great time bonding with the new members and the other clubs' indcutees as well. For senior Laura Kelley, the Silly Olympics were one of her favorite memories when she joined Zeta Rho in 2009, and this year she enjoyed watching the spirited tradition. "It was good to have all the older members cheering us on [when I joined]," Kelley said. "It finally felt like we were all a club at that point. This year I really enjoyed the competitiveness of the event. It's competitive, but it was a fun type of competitive." Freshman Olivia Futrell, who joined Ju Go Ju in the fall, thought the Silly Olympics allowed the new induction classes to bond even while expressing pride for their separate clubs. "I'm still a little bitter about the loss," Futrell said. "I really loved the crazy chant war that broke out between Ju Go Ju and Zeta Rho though- 'Oh, Ah, You Wish You Were a Cutie!"' Members new and old who competed in Silly Olympics continued the legacy of club unity and fun that the event promoted. Although each club wanted to win, the participants cherished most were the memories they formed with others as they laughed while completing their entertaining tasks.
