For many, sports had always been an exciting aspect of being in a club; but more than just the sports themselves, students loved the competition and club pride that came along with each game. Tom Ritchie, director of club and intramural sports, loved seeing club pride on the field. "Ijust like to see the camaraderie, the club spirit," Ritchie said. "I am encouraging clubs to wear theirjerseys to support their team so you can tell who is supporting who." Support and team morale also came from the clubs' fan bases. As the stands became more crowded, the intensity level of the game rose proportionally. ''l\ lot of [our fans] are just other members in the club, and a lot of Regina girls will come too since they're our sister club," sophomore Chi Sigma Alpha Athletic Director Blake Muncy said. "[Our fan~] really compete with some of the large clubs because they c'an bring a lot of people out there." Zeta Rho athletic director sophomore Karissa Faulk agreed that the fans always boosted the team's morale. "Zeta Rho always has fans screaming, being goofy and just having fun," Faulk said." Of course, for any sport and any club, rivalries nevertheless existed. Team rivalry was considered a healthy part of club sports by many participants and always provided a night of entertainment for onlookers. "Pikes is always a good rivalry," Muncy said. "They can beat us; we can beat them. It's just [a matter of] who comes to play that night." Ritchie had worked hard during past years to help these rivalries continue to be a positive aspect of club sports. "We have taken over complete control of officiating," Ritchie said. "We had a really good year last year, and I think taking over officiating had a lot to do with that." Aside from the rivalries and the support of the fans, camaraderie and the love of the game motivated many students to go out and play. "I liked being able to hang out with people from other clubs," Titans seniorJeremie Smith said. "I liked to just have fun and not take it too seriously." A few changes were made for the upcoming year that affected the team sign-up process. Club athletic directors were responsible for registering each club team on a new website called www.imleagues.com. They informed members on how to log in and sign up for the team on which they wished to compete. Once each team was set, there were many different online features available for players, allowing teams to show pride through individual profile pages. Members could also upload photos and enter information about their height, weight and ability. "We have to be really careful with [this feature], but it's all in fun," Ritchie said.
