When senior Elizabeth Overcash transferred to Harding a year ago, she knew she wanted to do one thing during her time on campus: cut hair. With l 0 months of cosmetology school behind her at Daytona State University, Overcash decided to pursue a four-year college degree as a history major. In order to earn extra income, she began her own hair business on campus, titled Elizabeth's Hair Styles, charging students $10 a cut. Overcash's name and reputation began to spread campus-wide in February 2010 when she helped out junior Zach Decker, who was in desperate need of a haircut after the last night of performing in the Harding production of ':A..Iice in Wonderland." "The business grew from there," Overcash said. "I give thanks to Zach Decker because he got the word out. I totally appreciate him." According to Decker, it was the best haircut he had ever received. He spread the word to friends and even wrote about it on Facebook. "Elizabetl1 is clean, accurate, and does the job well," Decker said. "She is charming. Overcash's roommate, senior Annette Suffridge, said it was Overcash's personality that kept people corning back to her for haircuts. She was personable with her customers, and they not only loved their cuts but Overcash as well. "Every moment spent with Elizabeth is filled with laughter and fun," Suffridge said. "Honestly, we spend most of our day laughing with each other and friends." According to Overcash, she had her sister, senior Shannon Overcash, to thank as well for spreading the word about her business, recommending her work to friends across campus. Shannon also served as her sister's number one customer, with a discount, of course. Overcash said the greatest thing she had gained through her on campus salon experience was meeting people she would not have met otherwise. "She doesn't beat around the bush; she works with her clients to find exactly what they want," Decker said. "Overall, Elizabeth is great at what she does." Kristi Soto People 23'1
