As children, we have big dreams and aspirations for when we "grow up," but many of these dreams fade as reality hits us. For senior electronic media production major Emily Timmons, however, a childhood dream became an absolute reality. Timmons never stopped pursuing her goal of working in Los Angeles as a film and television producer, and last semester she had the opportunity to do just that. "I worked on the set of a film, in the home of a man who designed clothing for rock stars," Timmons said. "One of the lead girls in it was some girl off 'Twilight.' I toured the place that did pre-animation for 'Alice in Wonderland,' one of the 'Star Wars' [films] and created the world Pandora on 'Avatar."' After catching wind of the opportunity for the internship through Abilene Christian University in 2010, Timmons worked with Communication ProfessorsJ ack Shock and Ginger Blackstone to make the opportunity a reality. "As far as skill level, Emily's editing is clearly the best of her peers," Blackstone said. "She has a creativity that's hard to teach." Timmons felt that her time in LA was a major faith-strengthening experience, getting the chance to meet with fellow Christians both at various churches and on-set, working in film themselves. "I met some amazing Christians in the industry like Dougjones and Ken Wales (they are quite amazing) and a lot of other people in the industry who came to talk to our ethics class, went to our church or whom I met through my internship," Timmons said. Timmons brought her new insight and talents back to Harding this fall when she helped work on the production of the Homecoming musical ''Annie." "It's evident d1at her LA experience broadened her skill set," Blackstone said. "It's hard to teach in a classroom or textbook what is best taught through observing and interacting with professionals who do this every day. She's really latched onto her leadership role and run with it. Her work has been great!" John Shrable People-Senior Feature aew-1 25
