Vice President Keith Cronk Mf~o'l~ Technology Information Services and Technology (IS&T) was a thriving part of campus, responsible for numerous technological resources and dedicated to providing services for faculty and students. Keith Cronk, chief information officer and vice president of IS&T, had served Harding for 12 years, helping both students and faculty gain a knowledge and understanding of how technology could improve the classroom. "He's a real pleasure to work with, a visionary type of leader," Administrative Assistant Karen Mayes said. Assistant Vice President of IS&T Mike Chalenburg agreed that Cronk was the right man for the job. "He has a real insight into the way things could be and should be," Chalenburg said. "He's good at encouraging people to do what they need to do." Along with IS&T, Cronk equipped Harding with the tools necessary for improvement. "We can use information technology to take Harding forward," Cronk said. "It can add competitive advantages to what you do; you can see people using it, and you can see people doing things differently." IS&T performed services in the administration building, library and registrar's office. They also oversaw numerous innovations to Pipeline, and in the fall, the department began working to create the Center for Learning with Technology. "[The center is] a focal point for using technology in the learning process," Cronk said. IS&T also focused on technologically benefitting . teachers and students. In the learning center, teachers could research accessible learning applications and programs and reveal their findings for other teachers' benefit. Other projects included brown bag luncheon training sessions and an international seminar preparing faculty members to teach abroad. Because of those things, IS&T viewed themselves as a team and a kind of family as well. "[They are] good at theirjob; they trust each other," Cronk said. "They work together and communicate." Cronk also felt that the student body contributed equally toward making the working environment enjoyable. "People still look you in the eye as you walk down the front lawn and say hello," Cronk said. "You don't see that in a lot of other places." The atmosphere and people at Harding made Cronk's experience with IS&T rewarding and enjoyable.
