2011-2012 Yearbook

bUGMi"~ lA SCHOOL HOJJSE trageoy Portraying seven different characters in the daunting task of a onewoman show, senior Logan Kays showed her audience an outpouring of emotion during her rendition ofJessica Dickey's play, "The Amish Project." The play, which debuted in New York City in 2008, served as Kays' senior seminar on Feb. 2-4. "I've been working on this show since the beginning of last semester, when Mr. [Robin J Miller advised me to do a one-woman show," Kays said. "It was terrifying, but I was honored by that. The play is based on a true story; it has such a powerful message, and people can relate to it in so many ways. It's just an excellent script." Senior Rob Yates, who served as Kays' director, said he could think of no one better to perform the play. "Logan was fearless in her approach to this show," Yates said. "Her performance was so strong, every character truly came to life. She dove in head first, and it paid off with a stunning performance." Because Kays portrayed all of the characters during the production, she developed connections with each one. "I think I related to Carol, the wife of the gunman, because she was so emotionally honest," Kays said. "Her character went through different stages of anger, grief and sadness. She was so open about it; her emotions were raw. You have to figure out what makes you feel that way. Having that sympathy and compassion for her was humbling." According to senior Joshua Little, who helped Kays advertise the program to the public, it was vital that others hear the story. "This show is a story that Harding doesn't hear a lot and that needed to be told," Little said. "Logan is an amazing and powerful actress." After preparing and performing "The Amish Project," Kays felt her perspective of herself and her world was significantly altered. "With a show like this, you learn about yourself and how different people react to things," Kays said. "The main message I took from the show, and that I hope the audience got, was that God is in everything, even horrible tragedies. He is there for everyone, no matter who you are or what you are going through." Michael Wallace V\Jko's.
