It was halftime, and the Lady Bisons were down 0-2 against Anderson University. "At halftime I was pretty upset about how we were playing," team captain and senior Hayley Withrow said. "We've had a hard past two years, and that first half just brought up all of those bad memories because our talent far exceeded them, but we were just giving zero heart." In the locker room the team was dejected. "One of the girls kept saying, 'It's alright, it's alright,' and I was just sitting there so frustrated," senior Paola Eusse said. "I said, 'No! It's not alright! We should be winning. We need to play like we really want this game.' Then Coach [Greg Harris] pulled the defense aside and told them to get it together, and then he pulled us out and said, 'Do your job."' When they returned to the field, the Lady Bisons made an incredible comeback to tie the game 2-2 in the second half. Freshman forward Adriana Lucar passed to Eusse, who made the goal, scoring the first point for the Bisons.Then, with only 50 seconds left in the game, sophomore midf1elder Lauren Scharf passed off to freshman midfielder JennaTaylor, scoring the game-tying goal. "After halftime, every single person on the field picked it 2 9 4 athletics up and we made an incredible comeback," Withrow said. "I was so proud of every person on the field." A total of six cards were given dur1ng the game. Five yellow cards were handed out and one red card was given to the Trojans' coach. "The opposing team was really aggressive and catty," Eusse said. "They were particularly verbally aggressive." An intense battle began during overtime, but the Lady Bisons kept the ball on the Trojans' side. In the last 10 seconds of overtime, Scharf narrowly missed scoring a goal at "an impossible angle," according to Eusse. "Even though it ended in a tie, it was our first big game that showed that we coula•overcome adversity and f1ght through 110 minutes of hard socxt..er," Withrow said. The Lady Bisons led tPie game in both shots (27) and shots on goal (14), and goalk~Wp~r and senior Chelsea Hornbeck made nine saves during llie game. "Even though we didn't win that game, we won the game," Eusse said. "To make a comeback and tie the game after being down at halftime and having JUSt come back from a 4-0 loss a couple days before says a lot about our team and the way we fight back.'' Nicole Guilla
