- Chi Kappa Rho member sophomore Lauren Ammerman and freshman Rachael Wood splatter each other with point with King's Men on Oct. 26. Before the new members could attend o function, they hod to participate in o service project of some sort. Alex Shelton Heart of o Servant "Chi Kappa Rho is a club in which the girls strive to be symbols of Christ in their daily lives," junior Cara Richardson said. For Richardson and her club sisters, one word described their club: service. The ladies of Chi Kappa Rho incorporated service into almost every aspect of their club. "Because we want to emphasize how important service is as a Christian, we require each girl to do a service project in order to go to a function," Richardson said. The ladies of XKP also took part in what they referred to as SPUD groups, or "Service Providing Unif1ed Devotion." "The idea behind SPUD groups is that we get the opportunity to get to know a smaller group of girls within the club, and we do this by serving together," junior Caitlin Wilhelm said. Every semester, the girls were divided into groups of about flve girls and met together for one hour every week. "SPUD group has definitely been one of my favorite things that I've done with XKP," Wilhelm said. "What better way to build friendships than by spending time serving others?" Row Noble ideals & Tact While some traditions faded, such as inductees wearing fake sticks of dynamite on their heads during club week, TNT was bolstered by a number of lasting traditions, some dating back to the founding of the club in 1933. Since that year, TNT had held the annual Blue Banquet. The function stood out from other club formals because of the traditional "blue gift" each member made for his date. Another longstanding tradition was the Annual Stag Function, a members' retreat held at the beginning of each fall semester. The day included community service Sophomore Matthew Gallagher plays kiss and tackle with freshman Meghin Morris during games with Pi Theta Phi on Oct 26. Aport from club week one of TNT's best-loved traditions was the annual Blue Banquet. Ashe/ Parsons and simply spending time together. This year, members went canoeing. "I don't think these things get old because they are tradition; in fact, I think they make it more meaningful," sophomore activities director Will Krech said. "You're a part of something that has been going on for a long time." Monique jacques club profiles 2 4 9 ~~
