The ladies of Delta Gamma Rho scream their traditional train cheer at the first night of roll call at the all-club devotional on Oct. 23 in the GAC. “It’s the cheer we’re known for,” senior member Kristen Sober said. “Even Dean Shearin stopped by our club week dinner to learn it.” [Jonathan Lindsay] scream he sound of cheers, chants and laughter filled theGanus Athletic Center as the new club members filed inside for a nightly all club devotional during club week, Oct. 22-26. New and old members from each club joined together Monday through Friday for an hour of spirited cheering for roll call, followed by a devotional period with song, prayer and inspirational thoughts. Most clubs had traditional cheers — ones that elicited memories from old members and created lasting ones for newmembers. Some clubs could be recognized simply by the sounds of their shouting. When the ladies of Delta Gamma Rho sounded off their traditional train cheer, people in the crowd quietly chimed in the familiar routine. Other clubs brought back crowd-pleasing roll call favorites as well. Knights’ squires garnered giggles with their customary “Jump, shake your booty” performance, and GATA signaled everyone to “stop, look and listen” to their new members. The shoulder-shrugging cutie pies of Ju Go Ju rhythmically spelled out their club name against the sounds of cheerleader-outfitted Ko Jo Kai members. Gamma Sigma Phi marched in spelling their name in song, and Delta Chi Delta brothers declared their unity in loud monologues on the gym floor. NewDelta Chi Delta member sophomore Chris Reeves said he and his new club brothers came upwith their routines each night before roll call.Their club theme of unity, present in all roll call chants, kept new members feeling close. “It was a little intimidating going out on the gym floor in front of everyone,” Reeves said. “But I knew I had my brothers with me.” Other clubs also required inductees to create a new routine as part of their club week duties. New members must perfect their unique cheer along with the others that had been around for years. The Zeta Rho stomp was an example of a cheer passed down from the beginnings of the club’s history. “Learning the stomp is just part of being in Zeta Rho,” Zeta Rho president senior Brooke Moncus said. “And because everyone knows it, it’s something we can all do together, new or old member.” [Kristin Kelley and Marrissa Shepard] Devodominates clubweek t ] Pi Theta Phi new member freshman Shannon Craddock gets senior Christy Duncan to sign her club week book in the Heritage Center lobby on Oct. 24.
