Recovering player breaks records Though an injury kept him from playing seven of the 17 games in the 2004 Bison soccer season, senior Ben Faris came back in the 2005 season and managed [0 break Harding's all-time goal and poim record. Faris, Bisons forward, completed his Harding career as [he Bisons' all-rime leader with 4 1 goals, 96 points and three All-GulfSouth Conference honors. Fa.-~eamed2nd ToamAII-GulfSouth Conference honors Nov.9, when the league released irs postseason awards. "I feel so blessed about all that has happened to me while here at Hading," Faris said. "I really wasn't expecting this much success in soccer." Faris said he was grateful for his Harding experience. "I [am] glad to have played four years of soccer here at Harding. I wouldn't change it for anything," Faris said. "All that I accomplished here was everything I wanted it to be." His junior yea r at H ardi ng, Faris was inju red during a game against Ouachim Baptist Universi ty and had a bone contusion to his shin, which caused tissue damage and kept him from playing soccer from September through O ctOber of 2004 . "That was defi nitel y the toughest time for me here," Faris said. "Not being able to play and just watch the games was really hard." Coach Greg H arris said it was dif– ficult for the team to see their forward down. "It was sad to see him on the bench instead ofon [he field," Harris said. "Bm we knew thac he was going to be OK and that he was going to play aga in soon." Faris said soccer had been a parr of his life for many years, but that he did not plan o n continuing the sporr after leaving Hard ing. "I've been playing since I was 9years old and I've never missed a season. I can't believe it has come to an end," Faris said. "I know I'm not going to pursue soccer to the next level after college." During Faris' yea rs at Harding, he . said he felt like the team had developed into a family for him. "I can honestly say that everyone in the team is like my best friend. We're together all the time," Faris said. "Each one of them has their own special qual– ity. I'm grateful (hat I came to Harding because I saw Jesus everywhere. "We weren't JUSt teammates oue there, we were brothers in C hrist and we were always there for each mher." The H arding men's soccer season came to an end Dec. 2 playing Central Arkansas University.
