Tennis team finishes season strong In the 2004~2005 season, the Lady Bison tennis team experienced a few setbacks. Injuries and ineligibil– ity left the team without the presence of several players at the NCAA Division II South Regional tournamenr in Valdosta, Ga., May 5. Three walk-on players represented the team in play. The Lady Bisons fell to #3 Valdosta State, 5-0, in the tournament. In singles competition, Valdosta State's Annika Biro defeated Harding's Karina Gomes, 6-1,6-0. Lady Bison Maria Hernande-L then fell to Valdosta State's MarinaGaley, 6-0, 6-0. All three doubles teams lost CO Valdosta State in the cournamenr. While injuries c.'llised a roster shuffle, the team stayed committed and finished the season 18- 13 overall. Junior Catherine Carlli said she saw a positive aspect of rhe team's presence at the tournament. The team did not go to the tournament before this year, and Carui said she was happy they made it. Head coach David Elliott said, overall, the season was fruitful for the L'1dy Bisons. "We had a really good year, and we had rwo of our top six players before we started," Elliott said. "We felt like we had a very successful season." lllroughour the progression ofthe season, Cami said there were improvements and team building throughout the season. "We are always together," Carui said. "We are friends. We know that not all teams are like that." Freshman Linnea Jordan also said uni ry was a key factor to the ream's overall success. "I fed like we played well, and we grew wgerher as a team," Jordan said. Jo rdan said the team lost one player to graduation for the 2006 season and gained three freshmen. She hoped to make it back to the tournament spri ng 2006. Carui said she had hope [hat the team's improvement would contin ue. "This semester we've improved a lor and I'm pretty sure we are going to be bener," Carui said.
