The GulfSollth Conference began women's competitive golf last year, and Harding joined the conference only one year after the esC's formation. "We've had a lot of interest in adding a ream the last few years," Athletic Director Greg Harnden said. "[Golfis] an emerging sporr not only within the NCAA, bur also within the GSc." The members ofthe Lady Bison golfteam included freshmen Vanessa Borsheim, Natalie Gay, Taren Massey and Courtney Napierala and senior Lindsay Trotter. Head coach Andrew Baker, executive director for the Institute for Church & Family, said he believed the women'sgolfteam would be successful in years to come. "The goal is that we will be able to build a p rogram that will be ab le to compete nationally in NCAA Division II women's golf," Baker said. The Lady Bisolls began their practices on Sept. 12 with much anticipation abom the upcoming season. The team practiced three to four times a week at one of their two home courses: the Searcy Country Club and the course at River Oaks. The Lady Bisons competed in the Lyon College Duel Match, the Oklahoma City Red Rooster Fall Invitational, Lady Indian Classic and the Christian Brothers University Fallinvitarional. The Lyon College Duel Match Sept. 29 brought (he Lady Bisons a first-place finish over Lyon College, wi th an overall score of398. However, the rest ofthe matches did not go as well for the Lady Bisons. The team placed 10thOut of 12 teams in the Red Rooster Invitational Oct. 5 with a score of750 and a stroke of 182 above par. One week later, OCt. 12, at the Lady Indian Classic at Sage Meadows in Jonesboro, Ark., Massey tied for 51st place out of85 players, swinging 166 above par. The team as a whole placed 15th out of 15 teams. In two rounds of play at the Christian Bro thers Universiry Fall Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.• Oct. 26. the Lady Bisons could not revive their season, coming in third out of four teams, with 205 above par and an overall score of765. Although struggles came along the way this inaugural season, the women hoped for improvement in the near future. "We didn't do as well as we liked. but we gOt good experience," Massey said.
