As the end of the year approached, the race for the All-Club SpOrtS Award tightened and brought out the competition within club athletics. Club Sports teams hauled to place themselves as the yea r's champions and conrin ue a legacy for future dub members. Jim Gowen, director of men's intramural spons, said there was morc fluctuation of winning teams among the small-club division than in the large– club division. "Up ullcillast year, TNTwas a large-dub dominant tcam," Gowen said. "Last yea r we had Knights and T itans share the overall championship," Gowen said. "In small dubs, Gamma Sigma Phi was the dominant team fo r the last couple of yea rs." Senior Robbie Sillis, Titans member, said his club had good chances of achieving the All-Club Spons Award agai n during the 2005-2006 school year. "We haven't lost the championship in softball since I've been here," Sillis said. "I think we're in the lead as far as club SPOrtS go." Club spans served as a way to unify members through competition. "A lot of us enjoy being tOgether, being com– petitive together and experiencing success together," Sillis said. "SportS is a great way to bring people together," junior Jonathan Glover, Knights athletic d irector, said: "Through competition, people learn how to work with each ocher and trust each other." Sophomore Ali White, Pi Theta Phi ath letic d irector, said competitive activiries helped her club members un ite. Gowen said clubs who wo n the All-Club Sports Award usually had more membe~ship participation, stronger athletes and better team spirit. "They demonstrate a lot ofwhat is ideal in teams and good sportsmanship and competitiveness and soul," Gowen said. However, Gowen said what made a good team wasn't exaccly athletic ability, but the will ingness to work together as a team and a drive for success. "Sports is a great opportunity to spend quality time with yo ur friends and the people you're in the club with," Glover said.
