2005-2006 Yearbook

In 1997, a group of men from Chi Sigma Alpha decided to get together one Friday afternoon to form what became, in 2005, an eight-year legacy. The idea was simple: Bring a steak, a slab of pork ribs or even a burger and meet at a sponsor's house for a rime offellowship, food and games. This tradition, called Red Meat Friday, gave mem– bers the chance to hang out with friends. enjoy a meal and enhance accountability among club members and club friends. "These guys happen to be my best friends," senior Anthony Sofia, Chi SigmaAlphamember, said. ''Any time I get to hang our with them is uplifting and relaxing." "It's on a Friday, so it gives the opportunity to kick back," Sofia said. "H owever, it also helps LIS establish stronger fellowship within our brotherhood." Senior Ryan Travis, Chi Sigma Alpha member, said the low cost, the time with friends and the recreation made [he event both special and successful. "It's a way co get to know the sponsors better, but ko JO koi it also broadens you r horiwns since it's nOt just a Chi Sigma Alpha and Regina thing - everyone's invited," Travis said. "Ie's also a good way co meet people" Sofia said the event also helped club members get to know potential members. Sofia said mixers tend to regu late a certain behavior in the dub, whereas being ourside the mixer helped members present their d ub for what it was. "At a mixer, the focus is solely on [the potential members]," Sofio said. "When they come [to the Red Meat Friday], they see how we treat each other and how we joke around. They get a glimpse of what it would be like." Senior Betsy StrattOn, Chi Sigma Alpha queen, said the event broadened. her opportunity to serve the dub as a queen while strengthening her friendship with club members. "It is sudl a blessing to interact with the guys and spend t ime with them," Stratton said. " I love any opportunity to spend time with them.
