Meanwhile, club officers starred their 2005 campaigns of flyer-posting. Activities took the normal route, but for the dub process, mixer themes took a different approach. Whether the theme ringed a rock tune, slid through soap and wacer, shined with glitter or splashed with water balloons, mixer themes greeted potential mem– bers with a smile. For the women ofRegina, the idea ofa "Rock Star" mixe r was nOt only creative, bur also an opportunity ro present the club in a laid-back manner. Senio r H ally Barcus, vice president of Regina, said the members greeted the idea with enthusiasm and excitement. "No one objected w the idea of dressing up as a celebrity rock star," Barcus said. "Everyone gOt into it. Even our beaux and our sponsors joined the idea. We definitely gOt a positive response." 1i.I.:,>",,,ial clubs Barcus said the idea for the mixer came from the mixer comminee within the d ub wi th the purpose of trying something new. "We really don't have many tradi tional mixers," she said. " For this occasion, we d ecided to let the [mixer commirree] use their imagination and come up with a derailed work." Senior C had Barron, vice president of Delta Chi Delta, said his dub's mixer was simple and relaxed. "We gOt four guys one day and uied to figure something out for the four mixers we were goi ng ro have," Barron sa id. "And then, out of nowhere, we decided to go for something simple like chips and salsa." . . Barron said they wanted their Ayers to catch the eye, for wh ich they decided to use a picrure of Mr. T with a sombrero. The mixer included a sombrero, a pinata, chips, salsa and drinks. "Our president made a drink from a recipe he fou nd at the Mexican grocery store on Race Streer," Barron said. Mixer themes offered potential members nOt only the opportunity to do something fun, but also the oppo rtunity to make friends in other dubs. Freshman Sarah H ackney said her experience with mixers was enjoyable mainly because the themes were so diverse and entertaining. "I went to camp~out mixers, HolI)'\vood exrrava· ganzas and a mixer for thugs," H ackney said . "It was so much fun because we gor to meet girls and participate in activities with them, even though we could go for another dub." Barcus said although themes were random, they were all meant to be welcoming. "Everyone was really excited with the mixers," Barcus said. "\Y/e had a lor of fun dressing up and being crazy and creative with the freshmen. Freshmen and club members participared more than what we ex pected and the outcome turned alit to be berter, and more enjoyable." -DanielCaceres
