2004-2005 Yearbook

Moments that Matter EDiTOR'S COMMENTS - 326 hen I recall the events of the past year, I close my eyes and see snapshots. I don't see ejiltire days or situations, but I see single moments in time that were important enough to me to store away. I see myself jumping up and down beside my mailbox in the student center in the spring of 2004, clutching a letter that told me I had been selected as editorin-chief. I see my fiance slipping a diamond ring onto my finger over the summer. I see a girl I didn't know being baptized in the McInteer fountain in the fall. I see the Petit Jean staff circled together, praying and crying, 24 hours after the death of sophomore Lena Hendrix, the leadership editor for this publication. At that moment I knew nothing would be the same about working on this book. Moments that matter shape who we are. With new experiences, successes and trials, we become somewhat different people. We learn more about God and ourselves. Each moment has the potential to change everything. One moment, we are going one direction. The next, something happens and we switch directions. I have found that it is those deciding moments that matter. Those moments define all that follow them. As the school year ends, the contents of this book move from currency to memory. Our lives will continue to be reshaped by new moments that matter, and the people we were this year will remain a part us. I hope this year was filled with moments that mattered to you. I hope this year has been filled with growth and success for you. I pray that you are a person more in love with the Lord because of your experiences. -LAUREN CANOY, EDiTOR-iN-CHiEF
