CLUB, SENIORS R ANNUAL AWARDS REGINA SPIRIT AWARD "Honored." "Humbled." These words were the reactions the two Regina Spirit Award winners said they felt when they learned their peers had chosen them for the award. Seniors Emily Dubois and Jimmy Huff were this year's winners. Regina social club members nominated seniors whom they believed best represented the spirit of Harding. The student body voted on the nominees in chapel Feb. 3. Dubois was an economics major, a member of Shantih social club, Alpha Omega service club, and was a member of Students in Free Enterprise. "I was really surprised and very, very happy," Dubois said when she learned she had won. "I felt really honored to have been nominated." Dubois planned on graduating in Dec. 2005 and finding a job she would fove. Huff was the Student Association president, an active member of Knights, a beau for Tri Kappa, a campaign leader for spring break campaigns for three years, the student leader of spring break campaigns in 2004 and was a grader in the computer science department. Huff's reaction was similar to Dubois when he learned he had won. HI was very humbled, because I know so many people on campus that I look up to spiritually and who lead spiritually in a quiet way," Huff said. "I was very honored and humbled at the same time." After graduation in May 2005, Huff planned to get his master's degree in computer electrical engineering and to use that degree to teach. He said he and his fiancee, Susan Berry, chapel secretary, planned to continue to serve after they left school. "Whatever I do, Susan and Twant to be involved with church and ministry," Huff said. "That will be our utmost importance," SOCIAL CLUBS - 2S8 Dubois and Huff both had advice for underclassmen. "No matter what, put God first," Dubois said. "Strive to do your best at school, and try to put things in perspective." Huff said to never forget to make time for God. "Whatever you do, whatever you're involved in, you can never underestimate making time for spiritual involvement. Remember the presence of God's spirit. It's something 1 constantly forget, and it's advice for myself." PETIT JEAN SERVICE AWARD In 1 Peter 4:10 Peter tells Ouistians, "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." Social clubs took their gifts to serve God in many ways including car washes, free baby-sitting and a free spa day. The Petit Jean staff recognized Zeta Rho as the recipient of the 2005 Petit Jean Service Award for its commitment to service. Zeta Rho participated in Race for the Cure, which raised mC!ney for breast cancer awareness, wrote cards to Harding families who had lost loved ones, and made a prayer map which marked all the towns where people had prayed for Barbara Moore, a Zeta Rho sponsor who died of cancer Nov. 9. Club members also raised money for the Florida hurricane victims, sent letters to and prayed for missionaries, and established Bible studies while spreading God's love to members of the community at Wal-Mart. Sophomore Carrie Cantrell, Zeta Rho service project director in the fall, explained why the club was able to be involved in so many service projects that required many participants. "We have some awesome girls who are willing to serve together," she said. "They are always so excited. It says a lot about them and their hearts." -CYNTHIA NOAH
