Ar(~. of· service KNIGHTS, PI THETA PHI MEMBERS BABY-SIT FOR FACULTY, STAFF In an attempt to give back to the those who had given to them, 40 members of Knights and 20 members Pi Theta Phi social clubs offered a free baby-sitting service from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 2 for faculty and staff members. "We wanted to do something for the faculty and staff of Harding University to say thanks for all they do for U5/' sophomore Jami Macke, Pi Theta Phi service project director, said. "So often they go above and beyond the lines of their jobs to help us and make us feel at home, aU while being amazing examples for us." Although the event was intended to give parents a night of fun without their children, sophomore Laura Jernigan, a Pi Theta Phi member, said club members enjoyed themselves as well. "It was fun," Jernigan said. "We had a good time playing with the kids." The evening's activities included organized games, crafts and playtime. "We made sock-snowmen and Christmas trees Qut of paper bags with the kids, and they loved it," junior Steve Worthy, Knights member, said. "The kids just ate it up. I think they also really liked that they were hanging out with college students instead of their parents." While the clubs said they only expected a turnout of 45, the event drew more than 50 children ranging in age from toddler to 12. "It was a really good experience," Worthy said. "As soon as we walked in, the kids immediately grasped onto us." Macke said the parents also expressed their enthusiasm for the clubs' service. "The response we had from the faculty, even those whose children didn't attend, was tremendous and very supportive," Macke said. Pi Theta Phi members said they appreciated Knights social club for helping with the event and hoped the two clubs would make the baby-sitting project a yearly tradition, Macke said. "We couldn't have done it without the Knights coming to play with the kids," Macke said. "They were wonderful ... I couldn't believe how eager and excited the guys were to run around with [the children], and the kids just ate them up. The men were extremely patient with them too, and that helped a lot." -OENAPOWER Zeta Rho. Row 1:( Wal lis, B. Irwin, J.Thompson, L. Bam, S. ~msey, L. Webster, l.WeII,. RIm 2:W. Jordan, K.
